100% OF BANDCAMP PROCEEDS FROM THIS SINGLE will go to support Seeding Sovereignty. The women of Seeding Sovereignty work to end violence violence to women and Mother Earth so that future generations may have humble and more joyous lives on a healed and thriving planet. Our friend, Janet MacGillivray, is an environmental attorney, mother, and social change activist currently undergoing cancer treatment. She founded and directs Seeding Sovereignty birthed at Standing Rock to amplify the role of indigenous knowledge for environmental justice. We are so inspired by her personal journey, her message of healing and community, and are moved by this opportunity to support her vision. Learn more at seedingsovereignty.org
I’ve always been attracted to the idea that we’re part of nature, that we’re connected to each other and to the earth. I don’t enjoy the arrogant notion that humans are separate from the rest of the beautiful community of life. My mom is an awesome gardener and I’ve always loved the way she works together with the elements to coax stunning vegetables and flowers into existence, witnessing the earth’s constant and comforting cycle of ripening, decay, and renewal. As we zip around in vehicles, stare at screens, and feel our hearts slowly crushing under the weight of cruelty and sensory overload, I’ve written this song in the spirit of regeneration, hope, and unity.
lyrics
ONE VINE
Well I’m free, I’m free to roam, in this life and in these bones
Every day a new sun rises, lifting off our old disguises, hey hey
You know where I’ve been and you know where I’m going
We’re unfolding one by one, by the power of the sun, hey hey
Bloomin’ in the sunshine
We are all on one vine, hey hey
Wilted dreams in the autumn, you plant your seeds in the spring if you’ve got em
And new leaves will grow from a stronger stalk, wrapped around this solid rock, hey hey
Bloomin’ in the sunshine
We are all on one vine, hey hey
Bloomin’ in the sunshine
We are all on one vine
Bloomin’ in the sunshine
We are all on one vine
Bloomin’ in the sunshine
We are all on one vine
Bloomin’ in the sunshine.
